Northwest's Green, Paint Branch's Quigley will team up at BU
They've been two of the county's best post players for the past four years. And now,
they're about to share one post.
Senior girls basketball players Deven Green of Northwest and Khalilah Quigley of Paint
Branch have both given verbal commitments to Boston University. In a crowded
recruiting class already comprising six high school seniors, the Terriers' largest in three
years, the two All-Gazette first teamers are the two true low-post targets.
Green's was the earlier decision, signing her letter of intent over a month ago. A
preseason McDonald's All-American nominee, Green has been the Jaguars' best player
since Day 1, averaging 16 points and 11 rebounds in her freshman year.
With a sturdy 5-foot-11 frame, she's been steady as a rock ever since, throwing up 16
and 10 as a sophomore and 18 and 11 a year ago. She's turned it up another notch
this winter, averaging over 20 points and 11 boards in leading Northwest to a 4-0 start.
Unlike Green, Quigley isn't her team's only premier recruit this season. Reigning
Gazette Player of the Year Tarik Hislop is rated at one of the top 100 recruits in the
country, according to ESPN Rise, and has already committed to James Madison.
But the burly 5-9 power forward has been just as productive as either one of them. Like
Green, Quigley made her presence felt immediately, leading the squad in scoring as a
freshman with just under 11 points per game.
Also like Green, her numbers only grew, averaging 16.8 per game as a sophomore
before a fantastic junior season: 19.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, and a 25-0 season,
culminating in a 35-point victory over Howard County's Atholton in the Class 3A state
championship game.
"Boston saw us play last season, the head coach got to see her at the Best of Maryland
Tournament [at Damascus this summer], so we've been contacting back and forth,"
said Paint Branch coach Heather Podosek. "It just felt like it was the right place for her."
Green and Quigley are similar players, primarily playing in the pivot but with solid agility,
and in Quigley's case, some guard skills. Both topped 1,000 career points as juniors,
and neither has lost a game yet this winter.
They are also close friends who "talk to each other almost every day," according to
Green.
"We met a long time ago in AAU ball," said Green. "We'll definitely play each other after
the season. We'll probably both work out with my AAU coach, Milton Kimbrough, before
we leave."

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Natalie Day recorded her first double-double with a game-high 19
points and Tamaya Daniels added 18 points to lead Howard University to a 64-46 win over
South Carolina State University in a league game at Burr Gym. It was the third straight win
for the Lady Bison (3-13 overall, 2-2 in the MEAC) while the Lady Bulldogs (3-12 overall,
0-4) remain winless in conference play.
Day got Howard off to a fast start, scoring 11 points while Daniels added six as the Lady
Bison bolted out to a 28-16 lead at the half. Equally important in the quick start was the
Howard defense which has played well of late.
The Lady Bison started the second half with a 10-4 run and were never serious
challenged after that.
A 6-0 freshman forward from Germantown, Md., Day hit on 8 of 16 from the field and
grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds. She just missed a double-double ( 9 points, 9
rebounds) in Saturday's win over Winston-Salem State University.
"She's beginning to understand the college game," said Coach Geckeler. "She's catching
on to the speed of the game. You can see her growth each game."

New Haven Women’s Basketball Signs Three Recruits
(11-17-08) WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's basketball
team announced three recruits who have committed to the Chargers for next season.
Olivia DeMarco, Jasmine Hardy and Nikita Reddy have all signed national letters of
intent to play at New Haven.
Reddy played for three years at Montrose Christian High School before transferring to
Northwest High School for her senior year. She was named Most Outstanding Player her
sophomore season and was the team captain at Montrose Christian her junior
campaign. A sharpshooting guard, Reddy averaged 18 points, five assists and two
steals per game last season. She also shot 93% from the free throw line and 60% from
behind the 3-point arc. An equally impressive student, Reddy has a 3.75 GPA through
her junior year.
"Nikita really impressed us with her shooting ability," Smith said. "She is the consummate
team player who does all the little things. We are anxious for her to join the program."
