Northwest's Green, Paint Branch's Quigley will team up at BU
They've been two of the county's best post players for the past four years. And now, they're about to
share one post.
Senior girls basketball players Deven Green of Northwest and Khalilah Quigley of Paint Branch have
both given verbal commitments to Boston University. In a crowded recruiting class already comprising
six high school seniors, the Terriers' largest in three years, the two All-Gazette first teamers are the
two true low-post targets.
Green's was the earlier decision, signing her letter of intent over a month ago. A preseason
McDonald's All-American nominee, Green has been the Jaguars' best player since Day 1, averaging
16 points and 11 rebounds in her freshman year.
With a sturdy 5-foot-11 frame, she's been steady as a rock ever since, throwing up 16 and 10 as a
sophomore and 18 and 11 a year ago. She's turned it up another notch this winter, averaging over
20 points and 11 boards in leading Northwest to a 4-0 start.
Unlike Green, Quigley isn't her team's only premier recruit this season. Reigning Gazette Player of
the Year Tarik Hislop is rated at one of the top 100 recruits in the country, according to ESPN Rise,
and has already committed to James Madison.
But the burly 5-9 power forward has been just as productive as either one of them. Like Green,
Quigley made her presence felt immediately, leading the squad in scoring as a freshman with just
under 11 points per game.
Also like Green, her numbers only grew, averaging 16.8 per game as a sophomore before a fantastic
junior season: 19.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, and a 25-0 season, culminating in a 35-point victory over
Howard County's Atholton in the Class 3A state championship game.
"Boston saw us play last season, the head coach got to see her at the Best of Maryland Tournament
[at Damascus this summer], so we've been contacting back and forth," said Paint Branch coach
Heather Podosek. "It just felt like it was the right place for her."
Green and Quigley are similar players, primarily playing in the pivot but with solid agility, and in
Quigley's case, some guard skills. Both topped 1,000 career points as juniors, and neither has lost a
game yet this winter.
They are also close friends who "talk to each other almost every day," according to Green.
"We met a long time ago in AAU ball," said Green. "We'll definitely play each other after the season.
We'll probably both work out with my AAU coach, Milton Kimbrough, before we leave."
